Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC811) Powder
Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC811), CAS number 179802-95-0, is considered one of the most promising future cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles due to its high specific energy density, favourable rate capability and relatively low product cost. NMC811 delivers a high specific capacity of ~200 mAh g-1 with a moderately high average discharge potential of ~3.8 V vs Li/Li, a substantial increase of ~25% in energy density compared to that of LiCoO+2.
NMC811 adopts the well-known α−NaFeO2 type layered oxide (R3m) structure characterized by a close-packed oxygen lattice and alternating layers of lithium and transition metal ions reside at the centre in octahedral coordination environments.
Electrochemical fluorination enhances the cycling stability of the electrode without altering bulk structure and morphology. ECF-NMC811 cathodes delivered 203.0 mA h g-1 first discharge capacity at the current rate of C/10, with ~98% capacity retention up to 100 cycles.
