Lithium Titanium Oxide Powder
Lithium titanium oxide (Li4Ti5O12), CAS number 12031-95-7, is also known as lithium titanate. It is applied as the anode active material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and has great potential in thin-film batteries for improving stability. It is widely accepted as one of the best anode materials for future electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
Structurally, lithium is located both in the octahedral and tetrahedral positions in the spinel-structure material. One more lithium ion can be intercalated into layered structure of lithium titanium oxide with the formation of Li2[Li1/3Ti5/3]O4 (or Li7Ti5O12), which corresponds to a higher electrochemical capacity of 175 mAh g−1. Despite the change in the structural type during the charge and discharge processes, the difference between the cubic unit cell parameters is smaller than 0.1%, hence great stability of LTO and a very long battery life cycle.
Lithium-ion batteries with a combination of a lithium titanium oxide (LTO, Li4/3Ti5/3O4) anode and 4-volt-class binary cathodes, LiMn2O4 (LMO) and LiNixCoyMn1-x-yO2 (NCM) cathode, LTO/LMO/NCM cell for high-power applications, exhibits a high output power density of 3600 W kg−1 for 10 s pulse. And a high-capacity retention of 95% after 30000 cycles at 10 C rate.
