Aligned Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes
Aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), CAS number 308068-56-6, are arrayed in the same direction parallel to the bundle axis. Similar to other carbon nanotubes, aligned MWCNTs are widely used as reinforcing material to achieve high stiffness in polymer composites. Polymer composites incorporated with align multi-walled carbon nanotubes surpass those with ordinary MWCNTs (effective modulus of 6.4 GPa) in stiffness, exhibiting an effective modulus of 13.2 GPa.
Aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes also enhance the electrical properties of polymer composites. An epoxy composite containing 0.01 wt% aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes as conductive filler demonstrates a bulk conductivity of 10-3 S/m, transitioning from being purely dielectric. Additionally, the electrical conductivity of the polymer composites exhibits anisotropy. When measured parallel to the alignment of carbon nanotubes, the conductivity is nearly three orders of magnitude higher than when measured perpendicular to it.
