Blue Dopant Materials
2,5,8,11-Tetra-tert-butylperylene (TBPe), a family member of perylene, has been widely used as a blue fluorescence emitter in OLED devices.
With the introduction of four steric tert-butyl groups to the perylene, electroluminescent devices using TBPe as a dopant have the benefit of electroluminescent colour stability; this is due to a lower degree of molecular aggregation tendency in the non-planar perylene structure.
The steric hindrance of the side groups also prevents the formation of exciplex and charge trapping, leading to higher efficiency of the electroluminescent devices.
